Primary Healthcare Facility

B.E.S.T. provides essential primary health care for the backstretch communities at Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga racetracks. These services are made available free of charge to the backstretch communities. In addition to primary care services., workers are able to seek chiropractic, podiatric care, and acupuncture at the Belmont Primary Care Facility and chiropractic is available in the Saratoga facility.

B.E.S.T.’s primary care facilities host annual Flu Shot programs from October to February as well as, testing for Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS.

Health and Life Insurance

B.E.S.T. facilitates enrollment into the NYS Health Exchange (of the Affordable Care Act -ACA) by providing all worker with ready access to NYS trained “navigators” and “certified assistant counselors”. B.E.S.T. provides all workers with up to $150 per month which is applied towards the cost of their health health insurance premium.

Backstretch workers who are ineligible for the ACA will be entitled to received assistance for most of their medical specialist cost/prescription medication/physical therapy etc.

Transportation and Translation Services

B.E.S.T.’s team of outreach coordinators and volunteers provide free transportation to and from medical and social service appointments as well as translation services to the Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga Backstretch Communities.

Over 500 workers benefit from these vital services annually.

Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling

Licensed by New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, B.E.S.T. provides on-site counseling for Alcoholism and Substance Abuse for the Aqueduct, Belmont and Saratoga Backstretch communities.

B.E.S.T. counselor’s take a holistic approach to treating chemical dependency, utilizing individualized treatment plans which include cognitive behavior, motivational enhancement and 12-step therapies.

Since 1989, B.E.S.T. has sponsored Alcoholics Anonymous Support Groups and recently became home to the only Spanish-speaking Narcotics Anonymous Group in Nassau County.
